Kunjakanan Nath (Turku, Finland) -- Thursday, Oct 29, 2026 - 5:00 PM (IST)

 Dear All,

The next talk is by Kunjakanan Nath from the University of Turku, Finland.

Talk Announcement:

Title:  Diophantine approximation with smooth numbers
Speaker: Kunjakanan Nath (Turku, Finland).
When: October 29, 2026, 5:00 PM- 6:00 PM IST (2:30 PM EEST)
Where: Zoom: Write to the organisers for the link.

Abstract: Given any irrational number $\alpha$, a classical question in Diophantine approximation is how well rational numbers can approximate $\alpha$. The Dirichlet approximation theorem states that there are infinitely many rational numbers $a/q$ with $(a,q)=1$ such that $|\alpha-a/q|\leq 1/q^2$. A natural follow-up question is what happens if we restrict the denominators $q$ to a special subset of positive integers. In this talk, I will discuss this question when the denominators $q$ are restricted to be smooth integers, that is, integers composed only of small prime factors. This is joint work with Habibur Rahaman.

Thank you.
With kind regards,
