Abstract: Given any irrational number $\alpha$, a classical question in Diophantine approximation is how well rational numbers can approximate $\alpha$. The Dirichlet approximation theorem states that there are infinitely many rational numbers $a/q$ with $(a,q)=1$ such that $|\alpha-a/q|\leq 1/q^2$. A natural follow-up question is what happens if we restrict the denominators $q$ to a special subset of positive integers. In this talk, I will discuss this question when the denominators $q$ are restricted to be smooth integers, that is, integers composed only of small prime factors. This is joint work with Habibur Rahaman.
Thank you.
With kind regards,
